Thursday 19th December – walk **** - Levington Creek Circuit – mainly cloudy.

With a southerly wind of 20 knots plus forecast and a mild 10 degrees I was keen to get out on the board, I am not keen on open sea sailing this time of year especially if I am the only one out so I headed over to my favourite winter venue Levington Marina on the River Orwell. The tide was not great being low water around 10.30 I arrived just before 11 to find a large dredging pipe blocking off the parking spot, I checked the wind strength on my gauge and got 17 mph gusts but the river was very low which meant a short beat out of the channel which was doable but I didn’t fancy the walk with my foil kit so I decided not to bother windsurfing, shame really as the water was super flat and I think you would have had a good foil with a big sail! As it was nice and mild, I decided not to waste the journey so I parked up by the yachts out of the water for winter maintenance put my big lens on my camera and headed off along the river path to Levington creek to see if there were any birds about. I hadn’t got far before I realised my first mistake, I should have put my walking boots on as it was very muddy! They were a few boats out on the river including a large dredger heading out to sea and a small boat towing two channel buoys to Ipswich. Sadly, even though there was lots of mud uncovered there were very few birds about, still it was a very pleasant walk with the sun even managing to peak out, a real bonus as it was supposed to rain! I continued all the way around Levington Creek turning away from the river and crossing the reed beds on the wooden boarding. The large herd of deer were bow her to be seen so a poor day for wildlife. Back at the creek I decided against the muddy path and walked back along the lane back to the marina. So although I missed out on a windsurfing session I made up with a lovely two hour walk covering 3.63 miles.
